UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said that saving Syria from the current crisis and distancing from it requires time, and that this is an ongoing process, opining that it’s still early and that being slow may be better than being fast.
In a press conference on Sunday, Brahimi said that a joint meeting between the official Syrian delegation and the "opposition" delegation was held and after it separate meetings were held with each side in the afternoon, noting that they found it very useful to talk with each side separately, as when he met them together, Brahimi didn't have a chance to discuss with each side their positions, hopes and concerns.
He said that he will meet the two delegations on Monday morning in one room so that they can talk to each other through him, and later on Monday afternoon he will meet with them separately once more.
Brahimi said that the morning session tackled humanitarian issues and discussed Homs extensively, hoping that they are close to reaching a solution for civilians at least, adding "the government delegation told us that women and children in the old city can leave immediately, as for other civilians they can do so too, but via a list of their names."
He said that a UN team in Syria discussed with Homs Governor the issue of humanitarian aid and delivering it to the old city, noting that there's a ready aid convoy and that he hopes that something will happen in this regard on Monday
