The Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the crimes of terrorist groups in Syria which included firing mortars at residential areas and the car bomb attack which took place in Homs on Monday, claiming the lives of six and injuring over 20 people.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said that the Syrian Army is working effectively to combat terrorists and extremists, assuming control over areas seized by armed groups such as the town of Yabroud, and this work is met by more terrorist acts and random shelling of residential areas by extremists.
The Ministry underlined the importance of the liberation of Yabroud which was compelted on Sunday.
The statement also denounced the terrorists’ abduction of Dr. Marcel Shehwara, a renowned feminist activist, in Aleppo, under the pretext of her “violating the Islamic sharia” as terrorists claimed, with the Ministry describing this as a crime sending Syria back to the middle ages.
The Ministry asserted that the Syrian authorities are delivering humanitarian aid to all areas and taking all necessary steps to improve humanitarian conditions in the country and alleviate the suffering of locals, noting that the Syrian government’s humanitarian efforts are met by aggressive confrontation from armed extremist groups.
The statement stressed that dealing with the humanitarian crisis in Syria requires dealing with the problem’s roots, primarily through combating terrorism and lifting the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US, the EU and other countries.
The statement also denounced the breaking of the reconciliation in Yarmouk Camp by armed groups, as gunmen showed up again in the camp and attacked locals, while extremists continue to prevent the sending of aid to Adra area.
The Ministry noted that reconciliation efforts are producing results in several areas, voicing Moscow’s full support for these positive achievements, reiterating calls for resolving the crisis in Syria politically and diplomatically through internal dialogue, which makes resuming talks in Geneva a pressing issue.
